Salzburg Austria Tourist Information and City Guide
Makartsteg Bridge is one of several attractive bridges that cross the Salzach River in Salzburg Austria. The current bridge was built in 2001.
Makartsteg Bridge is often called "Love Lock Bridge" because of the thousands of locks that have been attached to it by both young and not-so-young lovers.
It is not that unusual to find love locks on footbridges in Europe but the volume of locks on this particular bridge is impressive!
It has been a century-old tradition for lovers to inscribe a lock with their initials and attach it to the bridge. They then toss the key into the river to symbolize their unending love.
Are you planning a visit to Salzburg with your lover? If so, don't forget to bring along your inscribed love lock!
