Residenzplatz

Residenzplatz is the massive city square located in the heart of Salzburg Austria.

The impressive plaza is situated next to the Salzburg Cathedral, between the Old and the New Residenz buildings.

At the heart of the square is an attractive fountain called "Residenzbrunnen".  This Baroque fountain was built in 1661 and features a statue of Triton.

Fans of the movie "The Sound of Music" might recognize this fountain from that film.  It was used in a scene where Maria sings "I have Confidence".

Residenzplatz is the venue for one of the annual Salzburg Christmas markets that are held in the city during Advent.
