Most of Salzburg's top tourist attractions can be found in the "Altstadt" or Old Town. The Altstadt is located on the west side of the Salzach River.
The most visible landmark in the Old Town is the Salzburg Castle (Festung Hohensalburg). It is perched on a hilltop overlooking the city.

Other top attractions in the Altstadt are the Salzburg Cathedral, the Old and New Residenz (palaces) and St. Peter's Abbey.
